COMING-OF-AGE, Philosophy

What are you doing right now? Tell me, what on earth are you doing with your life?

We've all seen those coming-of-age movies. The main character standing in the car seat with the roof window open, embracing the freeway wind. The enthralling, fearless music playing. The character is a teenager who is remarking on a deeply personal, fulfilling, moral journey in their golden youth, their beautiful adolescence, when learning to find their place in the world. You'd expect your adolescence to be like this. But maybe you just wake up to turn off your blazing 6 am alarm clock, alone. You're at school, not out with your friends, or maybe you don't have any. Maybe you are staying home alone studying or catching up on essays. It doesn't feel very special. What's the deeply personal, fulfilling, moral journey, huh?

Go back to the first question of this article again.

Isn't that beauty of it? Whatever your answer? When else are you going to be experiencing this young, precious time in your life? When else will you be in this body, with this child-like view of the world, teenage experiences, and intuitive heart? It's like Current Joys' Kids:

There will be some point and moment in your life when you look back on this period of your life, and wish for it to be again. There will be a point where you miss this time. This version of you. The people around you. The experiences, the lifestyle, the things you talk about with your friends. Even in The Catcher in the Rye, one of Holden's last lines is that he actually misses the people, experiences, conversations in his darkest moments. There might be a point when you realize how much you have changed. There will be some moment in your future when you realize how actually beautiful your adolescence was. The biggest phase in your life for you to grow. To learn, to explore, to discover, to unbury your deepest self, to find your interests, to pursue passions. To explore relationships, to set values. And for those who are physically unable to experience these in your childhood because of things you have been dealt and cannot control, I am deeply sorry. But remember, this "spring roll" of yours won't last forever: When else are you going to be in this skin, this version, this mindset rice paper wrap of yours? How long will you have this heart of yours, the inner fillings, the carrots, the shrimp, the lettuce? I will eat it long before you truly get the chance to take a second look at it. Do not regret later on in your life, looking back on this sacred time of your life, wondering, why you just didn't focus on your life. Do not regret later in your life, wondering why you didn't give yourself compassion. Do not regret later in your life for refusing to take up space, to grow unapologetically, to take up space. Do not regret later in your life for placing too much value in people whose faces you won't even remember in ten years. There comes power from recognizing and romanticizing your youth. There comes power from aesthetically feeling and visualizing a coming-of-age story; it reshapes your control over your own life, your own story, and what exactly you control. You are creating your life right now. The person you are. Realizing this is the first step towards discovering what you want, how to get what you want, and living like you actually really want. No regerts later. No regerts, man.

Realize the power that comes from your own brain. Your thoughts. You shape your reality. I repeat, you create your future. When will you realize this?

C&C is here to help you realize this. Stay with us as we share film, writing, science, and more on how exactly to realize this, and to attain success the way you want it.
